We’re excited to have Jack Adams, M.S., CCC-A, as our guest speaker for this month! Jack is a highly regarded audiologist and expert in hearing health, who will lead a discussion on hearing loss and hearing aids covering topics such as:
- Basics of the anatomy of the auditory system and the causes and effects of hearing loss.
- Simplifying the numerous options in hearing aids to address how different types of amplification can be utilized to address the communication deficits which occur with hearing loss.
- The importance of listening skills and communication strategies, as well as the effects of hearing loss on cognitive function.
- Tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and its role in hearing loss will be explained as well as different types of remediation.
- Medical aspects and treatments for certain types of hearing loss will also be addressed.
This presentation is pertinent to anyone considering the use of hearing aids as a result of hearing loss as well as those individuals that are already wearing amplification. We will also address the importance of communication so spouses and significant others are certainly encouraged to attend to help learn how to cope with and live with an individual with impaired hearing. How to determine if a hearing loss is present and options as to how, when, and where to get your hearing evaluated will be outlined. Entering the hearing healthcare market as a naïve consumer is a difficult task. Tips and suggestions will be given as to how to navigate the marketplace. There will be plenty of time for questions and answers in order to address any specific questions from the audience so bring your questions for this open and frank discussion.
This session will not only provide valuable insights into hearing loss but also offer an opportunity to connect with others facing similar experiences. After the presentation, enjoy a complimentary light lunch and participate in an open support group discussion. Share stories, ask questions, and build a community of understanding and encouragement.
